We all enjoyed how we can easily copy texts and place them anywhere we want, which makes it very easy for us to use. The computer scientist Larry Tesler who made this useful interface on our computer has passed away aged 74.
Larry Tesler was born in 1945 in the Bronx, New York and studied at Stanford University in California.
He specialize in UI (User Interface) design, and started is career at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (Parc), then moved on to Apple where he spent 17 years and Rose to chief scientist. According to BBC news, they stated;
“Mr Tesler started working in Silicon Valley in the early 1960s, at a time when computers were inaccessible to the vast majority of people.
It was thanks to his innovations – which included the “cut”, “copy” and “paste” commands – that the personal computer became simple to learn and use.”
The death of Larry Tesler was announced on Twitter on Wednesday by Xerox, where he spent part of his career.
“The inventor of cut/copy & paste, find & replace, and more was former Xerox researcher Larry Tesler,” the company said.
“Your workday is easier thanks to his revolutionary ideas. Larry passed away Monday, so please join us in celebrating him.”
Xerox, where Mr Tesler spent part of his career, paid tribute to him.”
Mr Tesler has this strong believe that computer should terminate the use of modes, which were common in software design at the time.
Modes allow users to switch between functions on software and apps but make computers both time-consuming and complicated.
So strong was this belief that Mr Tesler’s website was called “nomodes.com”, his Twitter handle was “@nomodes”, and even his car’s registration plate was “No Modes”.
With the great inventory of the “copy” “paste” command, Mr Tesler really did a great work in making computer more user friendly and will forever be remembered.
