Head up we’re removing the ability to message directly on YouTube after September 18th, two years ago, we launched a feature to enable you to share videos via direct messages on YouTube since then, we’ve also focused on public conversation with updates to comments, posts, and stories. We’re constantly reevaluating our priorities and have decide to discontinue YouTube’s native direct messaging.

You can see they didn’t give any definite reason why they are shutting down the messaging feature. Also some other reports came up, according to TechCrunch they stated.

Notably, the FTC is also now following up on complaints about YouTube’s possible violations of COPPA, a U.S Children’s privacy law. Child advocacy and consumers groups complain that YouTube has lured children under 13 into digital playground, where it collects their data and target them with ads, without parental consent .
